2.1.1

Guard Against What?

It has never been easy to be a teenager. The pressures come from all directions. But in today’s affluent, materialistic world it’s tougher that ever. Guys must be aware of the temptations that they will face and understand the source of these temptations. They must prepare themselves for the proper responses so they will better resist the temptations as they arise.

2.1.2

Garbage In, Garbage Out

What goes up, must come down. What goes in, must come out. If we hear enough garbage, if we’re around those who embrace worldly ideas and behavior, if we’re not on our guard, we will conform. We will begin to walk and talk like those we spend time with. God makes this abundantly clear in His Word.

2.1.3

Affluence, Materialism and Greed

Affluence and materialism has become the American way. While successful professionals are certainly guilty of this condition, even those in our poverty stricken populations expect many material things that are unheard of in true poverty conditions. The more “stuff” people enjoy, the more they want and expect. It’s called greed - and it’s a sinful condition that has become prevalent in our culture.

2.1.4

Staying Pure

Being pure is considered opposite of being cool. A teenager can’t be popular and popular at the same time. Geeks might be pure. Shy kids might be pure. But for most teenagers in this worldly culture, purity doesn’t necessarily foster self-worth and self-esteem. And it’s hard to be on your guard or stand firm when assaulted by the peer-group pressures. So once our teens are away from proper adult supervision, purity is at risk of being lost. They must be on their guard.
